Arbor House

Located on a steep, teardrop shaped lot, this addition project presented a multitude of challenges for us to solve. The goal of the project was to turn the 1 story kitchen wing into a 2 story addition with a new kitchen and dining area on the 1st floor, and 2 new bedrooms with a full bath on the 2nd floor. And, make it look like it belongs on the house without ruining the original architectural character. No problem!

The old kitchen/dining area also had a funky little powder bath right next to the dining table, which is just gross. We used some creative geometry and reworked the split level entry to tuck the powder bath around the corner and down the stairs, literally hiding it under one of the kitchen countertops. The angles on this project are crazy, it was hard to draw and even trickier to build.

The new kitchen is designed for a couple of serious cooks who love to be in the kitchen, it’s got plenty of space for cooking and entertaining with a great view of the trees directly outside the front window, and the backyard is easily accessed buy new patio doors.

Upstairs, the kids get a new bathroom, 2 new bedrooms and a funky angled play zone at the top of the stairs with lots of natural light. This is another “most complicated project ever” candidate, until the next one….
